We live in deeds not in years

“We live in deeds not in years, in thoughts not breathes, in feelings not figures on a dial” a thought well quoted by Philip James Bailey. Since the very moment we take our first breath our existence gets attached to a deeper meaning and a further grail that needs to be achieved. We are placed on the planet with a purpose that needs fulfillment and we slog towards it our whole life and when the purpose is fulfilled our body ceases to exist but the impact that our deeds have on the lives of others remain and breed on the planet forever.

As a child everyone is told that they are to work hard in life to become a bigger person. This has two implications, one is the obvious one for survival and for the fulfillment of basic needs but the ther unsaid one is for the impact and legacy you leave after you in the lives of others.

People remember and reminisce about the greatness left by extraordinary humans such as Da vinci, Mahatma Gandhi, Neil Armstrong, Mother Teresa and many more. We know them for their noble contribution to the history of this planet, not everyone experienced their existence but everyone surely is impacted by the greatness of their deeds. This was to talk about the noble but there are people who are remembered for their heinous crimes and atrocities, Like Hitler is painfully remembered for the execution of millions of jews in his concentration camps on the name of race, terrorists such as Bin laden are remembered for their heinous crimes against people. This clearly shows that we live through our deeds and not through years.

We can live for 100 years and have no impact good or bad on the life of any individual on the planet. But what kind of existence is that? What is living without any meaning or any ultimate goal? You don't necessarily have to work towards impacting a lot of lives, once you start working towards your aim you’ll see that you will leave an automatic impact on the lives of others!

At the end of our journey on the planet what will matter is our work, our thoughts and our feelings! Even after we will cease to exist these will live indefinitely carrying our legacy for generations, making us immortal!
